| DeRango's Full Review: Imation SuperDisk Parallel Port Drive |
Great for laptops, if you own a laptop not only do you get your much need floppy drive, but you also have the option to use the super disks. Laptop's hard-drives tend to be small, by having this you can store up to 120MB on a single disk; best of all the disks are just as small as a standard floppy. The super disk drive fits well inside your laptop case, so bringing the unit with you isn't difficult, nor does it weight much.
Excellent buy, mainly because you can use standard floppies (1.44MB), along with super disks (120MB). I enjoy the fact that the unit is an external unit, this frees up *irq's. With the external capability this also gives you the option of taking the unit with you. People tend to believe that standard floppies are not used that often. To tell you the truth that is correct for the most part, but what about when your computer needs to boot off a disk, or when you need to install a driver? This is where floppies help you the most; don't neglect the fact that this (A: drive) is somewhat important. :)
*Irqs can be located under my computer, control panel, then double click on system, find the tab that says device manager. You'll understand that all computers are thinking of many things at once, its important that you don't have irq conflicts. Then again with floppies there isn't many conflicts at all. When you do have an external port like a zip drive and an internal floppy drive this takes up two irq's. This is unlike the imation super disk, which takes up just one irq.
I would recommend this more than a regular zip-drive (100MB per disk and cannot use floppies), and if this unit came in USB, it would be perfect. If you’re in the market for more storage per disk grab one of these bad boys.
Thanks for reading this, and if you have any questions e-mail me I’ll be happy to explain anything.
