For people who really enjoy a "if it moves, kill it" game, Diablo is the best game to come along in years. Wonderful graphics, good sound, good story line should you choose to follow it, and plenty of nasties to kill!
Diablo's highpoints are too numerous to point out all of them. A few highlights - great graphics, not the entirely top down view, but almost a side view giving a nicer representation of the characters. A good story line that can be followed and enjoyed, or totally ignored without effecting the game. Single player and multi-player options. A wonderful assortment of nasties each with different attributes, but all of whom will die if you hit them enough times with a sword.
Diablo's downsides? Well, if you are a purest, it is a bit unrealistic to have a bat drop a full plate armor after you kill it. This is supposed to be addressed in Diablo II. Sometimes the random generator seem to go overboard and create a level so thick with bats you can barely move.
Neither of these take away from the game play.
One thing that irks me a little is the limit that is placed on your characters non-main attributes. I know that you can't have unlimited attributes, but I feel the upper limit on some of these was set a little low. This is one situation where the programmers opinion of what makes a good game differs slightly from mine. It is not a really bad part of the game, just something I would have done differently.
There are 3 different classes to play, warrior, wizard and rouge. each with their own different strengths and weaknesses, each offering hours of enjoyment.
The quests that you are offered in the single player game are interesting, and well worth finishing. Most of them are simply "go kill this nasty", but a few take a little thought.
All in all, Diablo is the best game to come down the pike in a long time.
