Finally the HTML tool for everyone. Homepage is a simple web page editing tool that eliminates the need to learn the complicated and inefficient HTML language, but still offers all of the same options desired by even the most ambitious web designer.
I have worked with about a dozen editing tools from straight HTML to Microsoft FrontPage 2000 and Claris has been my favorite.
The format is simple. Simple drag the pictures, type the text, add boarders, and do anything else in the same manor that you would if working with programs such as printshop or Microsoft Publisher. Homepage automatically translates your action into HTML code and then gives you the option to view and edit the code. This is great if you are like me and want to add counters and weather applets to your page and must insert a pasted text into the code. The program will then automatically translate this back into the more user-friendly 'drag and drop' screen.
I enjoyed using homepage primarily because it gave a very easy to understand and simple to use frame-editing tool. In five minutes I was able to master Java and create frames, where as it would have taken me weeks to learn all of the HTML code.
One drawback I did find was that the program is complicated when trying to insert password pages and becomes confused when there is an excessive number of links between framed pages, but how many of your run of the mill page writers actually need these functions at their disposal.
All in all, Claris Homepage is a solid authoring tool which I would recommend for everyone from the proud new father who wants to share new baby pictures to the innovative online merchant who wants to quadruple his internet sales.
"A++++, much better than FrontPage!"
