| Seanster's Full Review: Expage Homepage Processor |
I have had good experiences with page makers, and I have had bad experiences. Then there's Expage. Expage is as close to pure frustration as you get.
For one thing, you have a limit of 4000 characters on a page. This may not seem like much, but when you can only put text in without great difficulty, it's horribly inadequate. You can choose one animation, one line color, one text size, one text color, and a link highlighting color for you main section. Wow. Because of this, all Expage sites look bland and uniform.
The whole point of an editor like this is to reduce the amount of HTML needed. Unfortunately, the only way to break out of the monotonous "Expage look" is to use HTML. Even then, Expage is very restrictive with HTML. So most sites still look like text files with a background color.
Many things annoy me about this page maker. First of all, you can edit the top, middle, or bottom in one menu. It is all separate, requiring you to go to another page each time you want to modify it. Another thing that makes me angry is the relentless banner and Expage promotions. For a site as worthless as this, no banners should be required. Finally, the overall restrictions of characters, graphics, and HTML just plain makes me mad. I started out as a beginner making this, but even then I knew that this was too restrictive. This site, in my opinion, was designed for beginners, by beginners. I urge you to avoid this page maker in any way you can.
If you want to see my ancient Expage site, go to http://www.expage.com/page/SKilcoin01. Then go to my new site. You can see quite clearly what the difference is.
