I just happen to love this word combination - multiuser environment, makes you sound so smart and well-educated, I am going to try it out tomorrow in front of my boss to see if he gets impressed. The actual thing is much more nasty - multiuser environment happens when you have one computer and a bunch of geeks wanting to get onto it.
That's exactly what happens when you take a look at my university, where they have one Internet-enabled computer at the department of English and about 15 e-mail accounts there. Obviously the first thing you would want is to be able to sort your mail into different folders.
The Bat, the product by which I am continuing to be amazed, lets you do that with the help of custom folders, where you can specify:
a) username
b) password
c) POP server
d) SMTP server
and a bunch of other stuff like customized signature, etc. This way you can have numerous people using the same computer and having to deal just with their own e-mail. Even more, if you look at the list above, if you don't specify the point (b) then each time you want to get your mail you just reenter the password, which saves you from accidentally downloading your mail off the server, when you wanted to do it at home, or if someone else is just too inquisitive to see what you're getting in your messages.
But wait! you're going to say, this sounds too good to be true, if all of that was that good, all people would be walking around happily, the wars would stop and all the planet population would be just spending their days in front of the computers using The Bat! The trick is (and Netscape Messenger users know it so well) - you cannot protect the mail that you already have received, thus anyone can click on your account and read what you've got.
So there's always the room for improvement, RIT Labs!
