| popkorn1's Full Review: 3Com HomeConnect PC Digital Camera |
I just recently bought a 3Com HomeConnect web cam for me and my girlfriend so we can keep in touch while she is away at college. I bought the camera solely for that purpose, just to use as a video phone. I chose the 3Com after reading many reviews on Epinions, and all of you really helped me out, this camera is great!
The camera is perfect with any amount of light. Its good especially in situations like mine, where maybe my girlfriend doesn't want to disturb her roommate, we can still see each other with her lights off. Of course, with very dim light, it requires more memory and slows the frame rate a little, but I haven't seen another camera that can do this.
The picture quality is amazingly clear. The user can choose between 3 settings - High Quality, Medium quality, and High Frame Rate. I usually use Medium quality, as it is very good quality with a very decent frame rate.
The software, on the other hand, isn't that great. The installation had its problems, where it failed to locate the setup.exe on its own CD so I had to install the software manually. However, the software, like I said, isn't really worth the trouble. I recommend the 3rd party Video Capturix 2000 instead. This program lets me capture beautiful full screen fluid video with this perfect little camera. Snapshots are also very very nice quality.
Overall, I bought this camera for use as a video phone and ended up using it for much more.. it is very nice and worth the investment!!
