| that's Full Review: Qdraw |
Q-paint or Q-draw? I wasn’t sure whether this review was to be for Q-paint or for Q-draw. The reason for this misunderstanding is because the topic header is for Q-draw yet the link and all the images on the page is for Q-paint. So I downloaded Q-paint and this review will be for Q-paint. Perhaps later I’ll download Q-draw and write on that, but for now, you’re reading about Q-paint.
Ok, now that I got that settled let’s move on, shall we?
What is it?
As you can tell from the images in the intro this is just a regular paint program similar to mspaint that comes standard in any windows os system.
Why do I need this on my wonderful lovely palm?
If you are like me and recently got the palm pda, you might be sitting there thinking, how am I ever going to use this? It turned out (at least for me) when I first started using the palm it took too long to get information into the device. I didn’t want someone on the phone spouting out information that I needed to take down and I was stuck with the slow graffiti to use. But now with a paint program all I have to do is jot it down on the screen like it was a regular paper and pencil situation. What more could I ask for? So this way I can have it in my palm for reference and if it’s important enough I can always come back to it later and put it in type format.
The Good
If you know how to use mspaint (like most kindergartners) then you will know how to use this program. It is very simple to use and is almost exactly like mspaint. Of course there is no space to put a toolbar of all the options that are allowed, but most of its commonly used options are on the bottom of the screen.
You get the whole screen to use as your template. Unlike with the graffiti program where you have only a small box to write in, one letter at a time.
You get all the same images such as rectangles and circles and lines. Which can be useful if you really need to make images to explain with an image and you’re a bad drawer.
Basically it’s the mspaint program where you use your stylus instead of your mouse. Of course this still takes some practice. So take your time with it.
When you open up Q-paint they display all your images as thumbnail images. All you have to do is click on them to edit them. So smart. So easy too. No more trying to remember what you called your file, or even having to waste time writing a name.
So far I have two images and Q-paint is taking up 23 K. Pretty small I think. But I’m not sure how good it will be when there are more images to save.
The bad
Unlike mspaint, there is no spray, no poly, a bunch of stuff is missing, but I don’t think I would ever use them for this palm device.
I’m not sure if there’s color. I have a IIIe so I can’t tell. But there is no option for different colors either, so I’m assuming that there isn’t a specific program for the IIIc’s.
You have to get used to using your palm screen as a template. If you are like me and your hand rests on the paper quite heavily then as a result the palm thinks your resting hand is your stylus and makes a mark there instead of where you are pointing the stylus. So you have to get used to a different way of writing. But I quickly adapted to it.
There is one thing that lingers in my mind. On the webpage the author writes that you have to use this software at your own risk. And I know it should be fine since it’s such a small program but it still lingers in my mind. I would hate for it to do anything to my other apps in my palm. But so far nothing wrong has occurred. If I notice anything though I’ll be sure to update this review and tell you!
Some specs
What you can do: Pen, erase, line, rect, rounded (rectangle), circle, paint (fill), text, and select. Under options there is: erase all, undo, cut, copy, paste, select all, and keyboard.
There are three different line thickness, and eight different types of fills (you can fill with eight different patterns). There is a bold on the text as well.
Also they program can work with Q-draw. You can import your freedrawn image to your Q-draw files. Q-draw seems to be like autocad, where geometric shapes take more presence than freehand.
That’s all I can think of for now. Thanks for reading!
