Gateway Destination

In February of 99 my husband and I finally gave in and purchased our first computer. After years of contemplating what system to purchase we narrowed it down to either Dell or Gateway. What sold us on Gateway is their "Destination" Multi Media system. It is a high end system that comes with a 27 or 36 inch monitor(that's right I said 36 inch).
The reason we chose to spend the extra money was because neither myself or my husband wanted to spend a couple thousand dollars on a computer that would end up in its own room,("The Computer Room"),like so many of our friends.
You see, the system controls all of your multimedia devices, vcr, satellite, cable, receiver etc. So in essence you are watching television on your computer. We had a DVD-Rom installed so now we can watch DVD movies on our nice new 36 inch monitor. And it is a computer monitor, not just a television with a Gateway sticker on it. It has a built in line doubler so that you can play all the newest games and surf the net.
The people at Gateway are always just a phone call away to help with any question no matter how trivial. They have been a great help for us!
But the greatest advantage is that when we're watching tv we can surf the net at the same time with the picture in picture feature. This is great cause it keeps the family in the same room, "THE FAMILY ROOM"
Disadvantages include, cost-$2500 and up, our system was $4000,basically take the computer you like and add on $2000 for the 36 inch monitor.
Some problems with flexibility because of the "DestiVu" programing that runs the tv and other devices, its a huge program and needs to be turned off when running and installing other large programs.(which only takes a few clicks)
Probably the biggest upset is that being a first time user its hard to have my friends help me with a system that they've never seen before, but there's no shortage of friends that want to "check it out"
