Cybermax.....Cyberjunk!
Aug 12 '00
Well, with the filing of bankruptcy of Fountain Technologies (which also owns Pionex, Inteva, Cybermax, Enorex and others), I thought I would just ad my $1,700 worth. If ever a company deserved to go belly up this is it. My story goes like this......In March 99 I got my new Cybermax amd K-6 II 400, after a couple weeks shipping delays, It was DOA and one of the dimms was laying loose in the bottom of the case, I popped the dimm back in and I called them to get a new power supply, these things happen I assured myself, after 2 hours on hold the genius at tech support wanted me to put my ear next to the power supply while it hit the on button to see if it "buzzed" I humored him, told him I had (not) and a new power supply was shipped and the computer booted, oh joy! the modem didn't work, new modem, didn't work either, went on the internet and got new drivers for that modem, now it works. A few weeks later, I had a question about a software program they installed (how to do something), I was told to reformat the hard drive and re install the image??? About 2 months later the video went nuts, a new video card was sent, it did not fix the problem so after another a couple months of messing with the stupid velocity 4400 card I convinced them that a severely color distorted screen was not "normal" nor windows fault, still no resolve, I frankly gave up and lived without all the 3D gaming features....time passed, for reasons that were not Cybermaxes fault I reformatted my hard drive, o.k. I thought, now is the time to check out the video again. still bad when accelerated, so I called Cybermax. they had me try to update the bios 5 times, I told them something was wrong with the bios as they would not update, I asked for a new motherboard, twice by phone once in writing via certified mail, their answer was NO! I could send the computer back and they would fix it, YEASURE!, they did such a good job at building it in the first place! I took the computer to a local shop, the determined the motherboard was bad, replaced it with a new one and ALL my odd crashing/video/self restarting problems went away. I contacted Cyberjunk, they agreed to pay the $147 I was out for repairs, however, they claim they credited the credit card I bought the computer on with the $83.00 I paid for the repair????? I mentioned that I had sent them an invoice for $147, I was told they would "check into it" and get back to me. I called the credit card co. (even thought the account has been closed for a year) there is no credit.
SOOOO at least I thought my problems are gone......until last week the cpu fan begain to fail, gave the old cyberjunk a call to find out they have stopped answering the phones, so I guess I'm out another $15.
I guess the lesson here is though Cybermax was cheaper when I bought it, sometimes cheap is no bargain!
