| gerstein's Full Review: Qualcomm Eudora |
But it won't mess up your email (unless you want it to). I've been using Eudora for the Mac since it was first developed. It's one of the only programs that I use that has actually gotten better with time, and it hasn't had every single bell and whistle added to it.
One of the best features is filtering. I know that most mail programs now offer this, but Eudora was one of the first to do it, and it still does a pretty good job. You can filter on 2 criteria and then act on that criteria. Move messages, delete them, print them, forward them, even respond to them just by checking your mail. Very handy if you're running a small business by yourself. It can save you a lot of time, especially when dealing with SPAM: about 90% of it gets moved to my bitbucket, where I check once a week to make sure nothing important got moved there by accident. Very nice.
The interface for Eudora is considered by some to be elegant, by others to be old fashioned and sparse. I think it's actually pretty good: there's not too much interface between my mail and I. Microsoft's Entourage has a much prettier interface, but it's also a scheduling/contact manager. I want an email program that lets me check my email, and Eudora does just that. You have control over just about every option that you can think of (which columns display while looking at a mailbox, previewing messages, which toolbars show up, how the default toolbar looks) and you can control some pretty geeky stuff (what your reply prefix looks like, the time/date format that is displayed in the message title bar).
Other nice features include the ability to check multiple POP/IMAP accounts, multiple signature files that can be changed on the fly, directory services, threaded (background) messaging, and with version 5, statistics. This feature lets you see how many messages you've sent/received in the last XX days (or weeks, months or years). It's not neccessary, but it is fun. As is the new "mood watch" feature. If you write an inflammatory email (lots of "hot" words), then Eudora will flag it with 1, 2 or 3 chilli peppers, giving you an idea of how upsetting it may be to the recipient. Again, not useful for everyone, but it sure is interesting!
Overall, it's a very useful mail program that's good for everyone. Try it today!
