Our office has an HP 8550DN printer that is used specifically for high speed, high volume reports of thousands of pages per print job. Because our organization has to send a multi-thousand report to a higher government agency, our company was given a HP Color Laser Jet 8550DN by a government organization. This was to ease the traffic that was being by an HP LaserJet 8000DN printer.
When this printer performs, it is the fastest and most incredible printer I have ever seen shooting out an incredible 24 pages per minute. However, when we produce our huge reports once a month, the printer is taxed to its limits. The specifications of the printer's capabilities state that it can 60,000 per duty cycle. Unfortunately our reports probably take it to that limit within every month.
Even though this is a really wonderful printer, we find ourselves calling for maintenance every three months. I believe this has to do with the type of reports that we have to produce in a small amount of time. We probably produce about 40,000 pages of reports in a span of a week.
Most of the problems that we have concerning this printer concern the feeding mechanism, and jamming. We produce a large quantity of duplex letter sized paperwork, and the printer apparently can't handle a large quantity of that type of work.
Probably if we were using this printer distributing the workload evenly through the month, we would not have as many problems with this printer as we have had. However, we can not make our work evened out in this matter so we have to print the reports in the manner we have.
If you are using this printer for smaller quantity print jobs of several hundred pages at one time, this printer will probably work for you. It is very fast and the printing is excellent.
However, if you are producing several thousand pages of print jobs at one time as we have to print, I will advise you that this printer will frequent amount of maintenance.
