HomeComputers & InternetPC DesktopsWhat Should I Know About Micron Desktops in General?

No Screwing Around!

Yes, it’s true; almost all Micron computers have no screws. (Except the ones that hold it together). What I trying to say is, to open the unit, you push a blue button and slide the cover off with ease. (I was timed for a ram install at 38 seconds!) It's one of the many features that make the Micron PC a superior computer experience. With excellent tech support and customer service, you won't be returning this bad boy to the store.

Micron doesn't sell out either, have you ever bought a computer that was preloaded with so much junk that the **system resources were at 62% free? (Yea HP & Compaq rings a bell). I usually do free-setups on customer units, where I work, to make sure they leave with a functional unit. They preload so many icons & worthless (start-up) software that it uses up the system resources on your computer. Your computer should always be running anywhere from 80-90% free system resources.

**System Resources can be found by right clicking on MY COMPUTER, and then click the farthest tab that says performance. I find it neat to see how just closing a few icons & programs not only frees up resources, but increase the booting speed of your computer as well. I should have worded it better, but the icons are not the major problem. The biggest problems occur when you’re running all those programs on start-up. If you take a look at the lower right hand toolbar you'll see that many things are actually running at this instant. Those programs regardless of being used or not are actually taking up resources.

**Never delete files on your computer your not sure about! ** The truth is most icons the computer has preloaded onto it, like the AOL icons or free trial icons are ok to delete. Never ever just go into your C: drive and start deleting things because you don't use them directly! Also if you want to see how many things are running on your computer at this time just press Ctr+Alt+Delete all at once. This will show you what programs are currently running "behind windows," in other words things you cannot see but are actually running.

Getting back to preloaded junk, what about all those FREE ISP trials that you don't want? All this worthless software takes up desktop space, hard-drive space, and system resources. The cleaner your desktop, the faster it will run software programs & boot-up. I don't know about you but when I get my $1,500 toy home I want to plug it in & start using it. Who wants to screw around with *FREE SERVICES CLICK HERE, REGISTAR YOUR COMPUTER NOW FOR A FREE BENIE BABY?

So instead of all that worthless software, they give you a WINDOWS 98 DISK, and a CD containing all your drivers. However this is harder to restore your computer to the original settings. Basically you have to format your C: drive (threw MS-DOS), and then install your windows 98 disk, followed by inserting the drivers for the installed hardware. (Sound Card, Video Card, Modem, ect.)

My first impression of the Micron was bad; I felt that the computer was "Ghetto" looking, (By looks alone I felt it just looked bad, but it's what’s on the inside that counts). As I began installs, restores, calling tech support, and opening the computer, my opinion changed. What I found was a great company that had put their customers first, great installed hardware, and the option to customize your computer. The upgradeable is high on these particular PCs. The way that the motherboard is setup in the unit makes everything easy to get at. The PCI slots and AGP (Advanced Graphics Port) are easily accessible, no integrated parts. So if you looking to increase the ram, add a new hard-drive, or just pop in a new card no problem.

Price for most of these computers is moderate. You can get a Micron for about $1,000, this would be a lower end model but good none-the-less.

I highly recommend these PC's due to wonderful tech support/customer service, upgradeable, dependability, and quality of the parts preinstalled. Whether you’re a first time owner, or an advanced user, buying a Micron PC is a wonderful choice.

****A trick I learned for all Windows 98 users**** for those who get confused by what I mean when I say system resources and worthless startup software…
Go to start
Then Run
Type msconfig
Careful don't screw around with anything click the far right tab
You’ll see what programs your computer starts up with, scary huh?
Enjoy
