The problem with PC's these days

In today's quickly moving world it is hard to decided what kind of system one might need. Building your own computer can be somewhat of a solution to this problem, but what you put in it could determine whether or not you end up building a new one next or, or in five years.
Computer standards are determined mainly by price. A good example of this is floppy disk drives. Floppy drives started out doubling every two or three years. From 720K, 1.44M, and the little know 2.88M. The 2.88M is little known because it was to expensive and consumers felt that double the space wasn't worth almost double the price. When building your computer you must take these things into consideration. Is that 128X optical CD ROM drive going to be around, or will it fall by the wayside?
One other thing to take into consideration is the fact that new and hot items are more expensive now then they will be next year. I remember when a 200M hard drive cost roughly as much as a 10G does today. Things gradually drop in price as more and better technology comes out. So maybe you shouldn't buy the latest greatest piece of pie.
The last consideration of making your own system is knowing how to do it. Doing your research can teach you how to do it. A few opinions here at epinions can help you out considerably.
