Pros: 16mb ram, 350mhz ramdac, superfast gaming on an inexpensive card, support for 32 bit color in windows
Cons: No 32 bit support in GAMES, slightly outdated, 3Dfx is being bought by Nvidia, so tech support is still a mystery

| kwygonn's Full Review: 3dfx Voodoo3 2000 PCI |
I am actually writing this review for the 3DFX Voodoo3 3000 PCI, there wasn't a place on epinions for that model, and this was the closest I could find.
I bought my V3 3000 on amazon.com, since it was only 2 dollars more than the 2000 version. The difference is about 50mhz in the ramdac speed, which allows higher resolution at a better refresh rate. Mine also has SGRAM, as opposed to regular SDRAM. The manuel says the only difference is the placement, but I think there is a slight performance increase. I bought the card for 92.00, and thats off of 149.00. So obviously it was a good deal, even for an older card.
The installation was a little harder than I expected, my original graphics chip is an onboard, and that always complicates things. I recommend learning how to disable your original onboard before you buy this card, because some onboards CANNOT be disabled, short of messing with the jumpers on the motherboard, which can be very bad if you don't know what you're doing. But once I got it installed, it was great. I don't wanna scare anyone away by saying the installation was hard, it's really not complicated considering you're replacing a major piece of hardware. After all, we are living in the age of Plug and Play = )
Performance was everything I have come to expect from 3dfx, I owned the original Voodoo (diamond monster 3d), it was the best of its time in my opinion. Like I was saying, the performance was stunning. From the crisp, bright 2D on the desktop, and regular applications, to the hardcore 3D games, this card is fast, packed, and stacked. For the price, I don't think you can find a better performer, period. I have not had the pleasure of testing such games as Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament, I just got the card today = ) I have tested Diablo 2, Star Wars Ep1 Racer, Expendable, and a few others. The results were stunning, I played Ep1 racer at max resolution (1280x1024) and it was at least 30fps with all effects turned to high. It was a truly beautiful sight.
Bottom line, if you have an aging computer that needs a little "caffeine jolt", look no further than the Voodoo3 by 3DFX.
