Choosing A Sound Card

Sound is probably just as important as video to all hardcore gamers especially since most are also into mp3s. It's nice to see that a company has gone out and developed a card that comes with software which were both specificly designed to help bring games to life. Creative Labs newest cards all do very nicely in games, but the best card for gamming must be the Sound Blaster Live!X-Gamer. Don't get me wrong the Live! Plat. is a superior card, but the $200 msrp is a bit pricey. The X-gamer is identical to the Live!mp3+, but the software that is shipped is games, rather then utilities. both cards preform excellantly in any application, but the X-Gamer's software is a great bonus. @ $100 msrp the games it ships with cover the cost by themselves. Now if you can afford the $200 (or can find it at a more reasonable price, i've seen $149)The Live!Plat combines the best of both worlds. you get the games, plus the audio utilities, plus all the apps (IBM Via Voice just to name one). The other great feature you get with the Live!plat. is called Live!Drive. Now this thing is really neatit lets you connect earphones, speakers, mics, and midi into the front of the machine with out digging behind. For those of us who love plugging and unplugging devices this is probably the best feature in the whole package. Either way you deciede to go weather the Plat.,X-Gamer, or MP3+ you definatly get what you paid for, just make sure your getting a Retail Version and not an OEM, the software is definatly worth the few extra dollars.
