I purchased my Gateway laptop just before my Sophomore year of college. I decided on a laptop mainly because I was sick of lugging my big desktop computer back and forth from Boston to NJ every September and May and then not having one over breaks. So, a laptop seemed the solution, Leave the big computer home with mom and take my computer with me anywhere. Thing is that being it was "my computer" I was the one responsible for buying it. That is why I chose Gateway. They were great about offering financing. I was able to buy the computer that I needed without selling off a kidney or anything. It had a huge screen compared to everything else I had seen as well as having the newest processor for the time. When it arrived I was amazed at how thin it was compared to my roommate's laptop which seemed clunky and unwieldy. It was exactly what I was looking for.
At the time I ordered the computer, they told me they were a little back-ordered and it would take a month or more to get the computer to me. I agreed as I wasn't moving back to Boston for 6 weeks. When the computer still hadn't arrived when it was time to move, they were great about changing the delivery address and even pushed me up to the top of the waiting list as I needed it for school work.
Since then, I have been nothing but happy with my Solo laptop. When any little thing went wrong (or I just couldn't figure it out) the folks at the customer service/support number were always really helpful.
The only thing I would have liked was if the price had been a little late. As a starving college student I am still paying off the last of the bill.
I recommend this computer based on its own merits along with the good feelings I have about the Gateway company.
