| mkeppler's Full Review: HP SureStore CD-Writer Plus 8100i |
I have been skeptical as to how well CD-RW drives would function on different types of systems...I run lots of memory-intensive apps on my personal computer and often test beta software, often without thinking that it might crash my system. So understandably, when everyone around me was buying a CD-RW, I became intrigued as well and finally decided to spend the cash and buy a burner.
I can't begin tell you how happy I am with my HP 8100i. This is a tremendous little toy and I often wonder why I never got one earlier. The drive installed flawlessly and I have yet to encounter a problem with it.
Many people attempt to burn CDs but wind up with coasters because of errors during the recording process. Usually, there are countless reasons why a "buffer underrun error" occurred. Yet with my 8100i, I haven't had that problem once. I had a friend who had a Ricoh SCSI burner and even after he called tech support three times, his burner still had problems. Tech support was gonna charge him like $200 to send it in JUST TO LOOK AT IT! HP is a company that has great tech support and technicians - it's a company I can trust. I own 2 other HP peripherals (a printer and PDA) and have had no problem with either.
The CD-RW comes with DirectCD and Adaptec Easy-CD Creator software, both easy to use and great pieces of software.
A definite recommendation - don't waste your time or money on something that may be cheaper or sound like a better deal...go with a name you can trust.
