Half-Life starts off as you being Gordon Freeman, a scientist enlisted as an assistant in the Black Mesa Laboratory. This game is amazing in the effect that it is more then just a "shoot the bad guy" game. You have to be skilled to win the game, not just have a lot of ammo.
Also, not only are you fighting mutant bad guys, you have to fight off the "good guys" too. The military has sent in special units to eliminate all survivors of the accident that occurs in the beginning of the game. These military units are amazing. They actually hunt you down and manuveur into position to kill you. For example, a couple may cause a distraction while a few others sneak up behind you and throw grenades. Truly amazing artificial intelligence.
The weapons are also unique. They have the standard big guns. But they also have things like crowbars, a hive that shoots hornets, a laser-guided rocket launcher, and a strange weapon that fires alien creatures that seek out the nearest person and detonate (be careful while using these, as if their is no one else to attack, they will attack you and blow YOU up).
This game also runs great. I've played Half-Life on various systems, and it always runs good. I would recommend a 3D accelerator, but it will still work without one. And, for all you cheaters, their are cheat codes available for use.
