Pros:Ranging from cheap to oh god are these cheap, sufficient bass for most people
Cons:They ain't going to rattle the glass, quality can be inconsistent, high end is weak
A great deal if you keep your eyes open. These speakers usually retail for $49.95 or so, which is quite reasonable. Every once in a while though they go on sale, usually in the form of a retail rebate, and this is when it becomes impossible not to buy them. I purchased mine from Staples with a $20 rebate, putting the final price at $29.95. These speakers aren't the greatest, mind you. But they are sufficient for my non-audiophile ears. The sound is better than your average standard speakers (the kind that come packaged with a new computer). Movies play fine, the bass is nice. Properly set up they really ad a lot of aural detail to games. And with a decent quality MP3 (~160 Kb/s) they really kick out the jams. I do recommend opening the box and inspecting the model you intend to buy, as quality seems to be a bit unreliable. If I had a high end sound card I would probably part with the dough and get a pair of THX certified speakers like the Klipsch ProMedia v.2-400 ($250). However, for a budget solution these speakers cannot be beaten, yet... Final recommendation, at $49.95 they are an adequate deal and almost anyone should be happy with them. At $29.95 I command you to purchase these, even if you don't want them, because at the very least they will make for a good and pretty cheap Christmas/Birthday present.
