Pros:FAST, easily upgradable, easy to set up and use.
Cons:practically no video ram, not all software pre-installed
I recently got a Aptiva with 96 megs or ram, and an AMD Athlon 500mhz. Very fast is the only way I can describe it. despite software decoding the dvd movies run smoothly and 3d games run extremely well. I had heard horror stories of how hard it was to upgrade an IBM which led me to mistakes such as Packard Bell. big mistake that turned out to be. but when I opened up the case I was surprised. Everything was easily accesible, it had 4 open PCI slots and neither the sound or the graphics were sodered to the motherboard. Two extra drive bays and the IDE and power suppy cables were right there ready to be hooked to to a CD-RW or whatever.
Only a couple bad things about this PC. 1. the graphics card. I was happy to see it was a Savage3 so it has support to large textures but I don't know what IBM was thinking. What good is large textures if you have only a piddly 8 meg of video ram??? 2. not al the software came preinstalled (Lotus Works) and the fact that it only includes Lotus but I guess that should be expected since they own the company. but other than that a great machine.
