| SusanT's Full Review: Intuit Quicken 2000 |
I am not a financial genius, just a stay at home mom who needs a quick way to keep the family's accounts up to date and balanced.
I previously used a shareware off the web. This shareware "Easy Checkbook" had a lot of faults. Basically it is a glorified spreadsheet. There were no capabilities to change order of checks once they were entered among other things (making it really hard to check when things clear).
My husband got Quicken 2000 along with Turbo Tax from CompUsa. They had a GREAT rebate, and with Turbo Tax, you can deduct it from your taxes.
Upon first opening the package, I was intimidated. I have no stocks or 401K, nor do I understand completely what a money market fund is. I waited a few weeks, then said, what the heck, I'll install it.
I come to find out that it only took me about 5-10 minutes to change over my accounts, and set up, and it is SO easy to use.
The parts of Quicken 2000 I like the most is the Calendar, where you can type in when money comes in/out, and it will put it in and out of your account record automatically (like rent payment/paycheck). Also, that you can see graphs of your household's expenses divided by type(letting you know what percentage of money you spend on each type of expense-i.e. electric/gas, phone, you get the idea..).
My bank is not online, but if yours is, this program can do even more for you, interfacing with the bank. Also, you can get stock updates off the web, and do your stock trading thru Quicken. Lastly, you can keep track of stuff like 401K and related items.
The bottom line is...you don't have to be a financial wizard to use this program and get what you need out of it, it is for busy moms as much as it is for stock brokers.
