When upgrading my system I decided to splurge and go with the best 3D Graphics card I could find. I finally settled on the Asus 6800 Deluxe 4xAGP card as it got great ratings from the sites I usually trust (Anandtech, Toms Hardware and such). When looking at the possible features I could ever want in a graphics card I decided to splurge for the Deluxe model as it had 3d glasses (flicker type) and TV-out along with the standard monitor output.
Installation on my Abit KA7-100 board was easy and I was soon powering my system up and loading the drivers for it in Windows2000 Pro. A quick visit to the Asus website and I was upgrading the card's firmware BIOS and I was good to go.
Of course you don't buy a 3D graphics card for business graphics, you buy them for games, and with Age of Empires 2 and Diablo 2 newly in my home I just had to try them out. Needless to say the graphics are stunning in both games, but especially in Diablo 2! All of the tall trees and buildings subtly shift as you move and perspective now comes into play like I have never seen it before. Of course this graphic card was obsolete within a few weeks of its delivery to my doorstep and faster, bigger and badder cards are now out. But for me this card should prove good for 2 or 3 years as I am NOT a die-hard gamer, just someone who likes to game once in awhile to take a break from more mundane computing chores.
And for that, this graphics card will serve nicely!
