I've used Toast occasionally for years, but it wasn't until I bought a CDRW for home use that I got to know the software and realize some of what I've been missing.
One of the best features, as far as I'm concerned, is the ability to make bootable CD's for the Mac. Before Toast, you had to do a special setup of the CD and create a new System Folder for the CD. Now all you have to do is check a box while setting up the CD creation.
Another nice feature is the "Toast Audio Extractor", which makes it easy to pull audio tracks from CD's so that you can make your own CD's - like you used to do with tapes. It also connects to the CDDB (CD Database) website to get the CD name, track names and other info, saving you time.
Burning a CD is super simple: open Toast, drag the data you want to burn into the Toast window, put a blank CD in the burner, and tell it to start burning. If you want to start customizing, all of the options are easy to find, and they're all VERY easy to understand. When it comes to burning data CD's, one of the nicest options is the ability to "burn" to a disc image, so you can customize the layout of the disc at any time.
One of the best features over all is the ability to burn a CD in "simulation mode." We have started using this option at work, since the burner we have there has started turning out a lot of coasters. Simulation mode lets you make sure that the settings you have selected will burn a CD properly - if not, you only loose some time, not a blank. You can then go back and adjust the settings to try to compensate for whatever errors may come up during the simulation.
