Technician Opinion....bad for the office, good at the home
Jul 05 '00
I've been a tech for 2 years now, and I have to give Gateway a pat on the back for thier home PC line. They have a fairly affordable and decent quallity product. You would be far better off choosing a Gateway as opposed to a Compaq or HP, home user line. Trust me Gateway is not my first choice, I think every techs first choice would be to build your own from the ground up, that way you know what your puting in there, plus it's alot cheaper. My second choice would have to be going with Dell, they are just a better computer all around, for business or for home.
Gateway made allot of mistakes ont here Office and small business mahcines, they are in constant need of repair. They really dropped the ball there. I personally would never buy a Gateway, but if thats what floats your boat, you shouldn't have to worry, you will be fairly pleased. As far as warranty goes, I know they advertise that whole onsite warranty deal, butgetting someone from gateway to come to your house and work on your computer, is like pulling teeth, you'll spend 10 hours ont he phone doing everything imaginable to you PC before they believe that your PC is broken. Then, they will come and have the wrong parts or not even have the parts that need to be replaced.
