| soap631300's Full Review: Intel PC Camera Pack |
I had been wanting a webcam for a long time. I researched several sites, and read and rated a bunch of Epinions about webcams. I took all of that information in and decided to buy an Intel PC Camera pack. According to what I had read, it was one of the best. I decided that if it didn't work, I would go up to the more expensive 3Com Home Home Connect PC Camera.
I bought the Intel camera, and with $10.00 rebate it offered, the final price would be $59.00, plus tax. I thought that was really good, especially when I thought about the good ratings I had read on this camera. I couldn't wait to get this cute little webcam home and plug it in!
At home, I read the directions, then loaded the software. This is where the good part ends. I couldn't load the software, because I kept getting an error message that said, "Unable to start logging process to enable Uninstall functionality. Setup cannot continue." I was disappointed when I got this message, because I wanted to be able to use this highly recommended camera. This error message look particularly ominous because it didn't offer a solution. The last sentence of the error message, "Setup cannot continue" looked very final.
I decided not to give up and to do all I could to get this camera to work before I took it back. I went to the Intel and tried to look for a solution. The site had several error messages and solutions, but it didn't have my error message. I then took down their technical support telephone number and decided to call Intel to see if they could help me.
The call was long distance, which was not good. Plus, I was kept on hold for approximately 10 minutes. When I finally got a tech person on the line, he was helpful at first, but then he turned slightly rude and condescending. But most importantly, his solution did not help, and I couldn't tell him that because he got me off the phone before I could try to load my software again.
If you have an Intel PC Camera, and you got the above error message when installing your software, can you please tell me what you did to fix it? I really want to see if I can get this camera to work. If everything fails, then maybe the camera just won't work with my computer. If you think you can help me out, please post a comment! Thanks!

UPDATE: February 29, 2000
Thanks to the help posted in the comments section, I got the camera up and working, and it works like a charm. The picture quality is very nice. There is a lot of software included in this package. I haven't done a video call yet, but when I do, I will post how it went.
