| chewychin's Full Review: Altec Lansing ACS 33 Computer Speakers |
For those of you that use those cheap speakers that come with your computer when you buy it from the store, this is a product for you. I like you was reluctant to purchase new speakers because of price, and there are just too many choices out there. Some questions that you may have come across are whether to consider:
-price?
-name?
-power and all those numbers that are thrown at you?
I myself was clueless to all of the above, so I chose one that looked good, had a good price, and had a decent amount of power and a reputable name. Thus my decision on the Altec Lansing ACS 33.
The Speakers
The speakers are small and very stylish, yet they have power and they sound clean. Though the two speakers or Satellites only have 10 Watts of power they are sufficient for the college student downloading mp3's on napster to the avid gamer. However those that use their computers for music editing will want something more. The volume control are is on the right satellite and has a Power ON LED (light emitting diod).
One of the real advantages to the ACS 33 is the size of the satellites, for they are small, and I'm talking small. Roughly six inches tall, these can fit the smallest of desks, thus adding to the attractiveness to this unit.
The Subwoofer
The subwoofer is why you buy this system, cause those tiny speakers that were bundled with your computer don't offer the room shaking, roommate waking up, neighbor annoying bass that you require while playing your mp3's. Thus the Powered subwoofer offers this by extending the low frequency response to add realism and bass.
Though the unit only offers through its Subwoofer 15 Watts of power, it seems like much more than that. For that this wattage is sufficient for most applications, and sound cards.
Therefore for those of you, that are looking for a cheap upgrade to the dinky, low power, horrible sounding speakers that came with your computer, if it even came with speakers. Then the ACS33 is for you.
-Buy this if you want a cheap, decent powered speaker, with a dependable name.
-Don't buy this if you want to be a sound professional or use this for throwing huge house parties
