Toshiba's Satellite 2805-S201 is an economically sound decision for anyone considering a laptop purchase. With DVD, 64MB Ram (up to 320), 13.3" TFT display, 6 GB hard drive, Windows Me, floppy disk drive, lithium ion battery, Celeron 650Mhz processor, and attractive gray and black styling, it is a true performer, especially under the price of $1300.00. The Satellite is fast; whether booting up Office or running Photoshop, the processor stands up to its claim of high speed. Celeron, in my opinion, is as fast as a Pentium III. The Satellite includes plenty of helpful, productive pre-loaded software such as Lotus Smart Suite, which includes word processing, database, spreadsheet, and presentation tools.
The performance of the drives and display are above par. The DVD player is user friendly, and with 8 MB of dedicated video memory, DVDs play without a hitch or stutter. The display, although small in comparison to some of the 14+" displays, is clear and detailed. Additionally, the brightness of the screen is helpful in dark operating situations.
Although the Satellite is a great buy for the features offered (I paid $1199.00 after rebate), a powerhouse of expandability it is not. The 6GB hard drive is sufficient for the productivity-based user; however, if you are into pictures and digital video, the hard drive will soon be insufficient. Limited to 320 MB of RAM, the Satellite provides plenty for most, but programmers and techies might find it limiting.
The Satellite is everything the productivity-oriented user needs in a laptop. With plenty of speed, memory, and productive software, it would be criminal not to buy one before they are gone.
