| elbowz's Full Review: Dell Latitude Cpi A400XT |
This is the laptop of choice for the blue-chip where I work. A fairly standard spec sheet but with lots of clever touches which make it stand out from the crowd. Memory and Hard disk upgrades are trivial tasks and build quality appears excellent.
In use the CPi is just as impressive, the keyboard is solidly anchored (no flex here) and the screen is big, bright and sharp. The trackpad is one of the best I have experienced responding well to even the faintest of touches, whilst being far enough from the keyboard for you to be able to type without worrying about phantom clicks as your wrists pass over it.
Two drive bays at the front of the machine can accommodate batteries or a selection of drives, floppy, CD, CD-R and DVD, which makes it a pretty flexible tool as well. Battery life is around four to five hours per battery, so with batteries in both bays a full working day away from the mains is easily achievable. (Something which is regularly achieved by users here).
The only omissions which I can criticise are the absence of built in modem or NIC. Other corporate suppliers have realised that this is as important on a laptop as any other machine, although you can purchase PCMCIA cards to make up this shortfall.
With most laptops you are required to make some kind of compromise, with this Dell there is no longer an issue.
