I found this scanner listed for $89 with free overnight delivery with Outpost.com and after doing some research on it, I decided to purchase it. I basically needed a scanner to scan photos for the web or to e-mail pictures to family members and this machine does just what I need it for. (Plus it even matches my imac!) If I were really into digital photography and printing out photos, etc., I probably would have purchased a different model.
The scanner was easy to install, pretty much just read the instructions and you are ready to go. I did find however that I could not plug the scanner into my USB hub even though the documentation said that it could plug into a self powered US hub. (It said that there was not enough power). So, I plugged it directly into the IMAC.
I've done a lot of scanning since my purchase and am pleased with the results. Using Adobe Photo Deluxe is a bit limiting, but it is a decent program for beginners. There is no written documentation that comes with the scanner about Adobe Deluxe so I could see it being confusing for someone who is new to scanning or editing photos.
I had a bit of a problem trying to get the OCR software to work. (It comes with Text Bridge) For some reason it wasn't recognizing the scanner as an input source. I contacted someone from tech support and they responded to my e-mail about two days later suggesting that I select "works like Apple Scan" and then choose that as my input source. I did that and tested it and it easily scanned a page of text so that I could edit it in MS Word.
Overall, the scanner is a nice little model for people just starting out with scanning.
