Quality of Tech Support:
Pros:Excellent software bundle, looks better than average PC
Cons:Unreliable, mediocre tech support, overpriced
I have to admit that I was probably insane when I bought my Sony piece of junk. I had owned 7 defective Sony products prior to purchasing the PCV-R522DS, but I decided to give Sony another chance. Another reviewer seems to have had a clone of my computer, because mine also had problems with the Sound Recorder and my background also disappeared. But, I had problems arranging to have it fixed also. First, I had to wait one and a half hours to talk to somebody about my problems. Then I had to wait another 30 minutes to be connected to third-level support to figure out what was causing the problems. Then I had to comb the neighborhood to find a fax machine so I could fax my receipt to Sony. Then I had to wait on the phone another hour and a half to make the arrangements for the motherboard to be put in. But, apparently it was out of stock and it would be 1 week to get it in. During the next four weeks I kept getting the runaround while I tried to find out when I was getting the motherboard. I had to talk to a supervisor to get a straight answer. It was going to be a couple of weeks while they coded the motherboards. I eventually got the motherboard and had to call back to schedule someone to come to my house to install it. It was installed and the computer worked better, but several months later, while trying to use the front USB port with no luck, I called Sony and found out it was connected in the wrong place. So, I had to connect it myself. And let me tell you, trying to connect a tiny connector in a very small space is not easy. Also, I recently bought a scanner for my computer. It takes 10 minutes for the computer to process the image. It is also very picky about software. Install any new software and it might crash to spite you. The only good thing about it is that it is a powerful computer when it works. And Sony's tech support is getting better, but is still not as good as it could be. I think I have learned my lesson about electronics: If one apple is spoiled, the crop it came from is also bad.
