This is a review on the Memorex 800 dpi Internet-Pro Scrolling Mouse. I am placing it here because epinions will not allow me to add the proper category... and this is absolutely the most fantastic mouse I've ever seen... and for only eight bucks!!!!
Since I have an older computer with serial ports, I had held off on buying a scrolling mouse ("wheel mouse") until I checked out available adaptors; and also because I wasn't ready to "sink out" the $30 for the ones I had seen advertised. But when I found a Memorex Internet-Pro Scrolling Mouse, 800 dpi, for $7.99 I decided it was worth investing in.
This mouse is incredible! Not only does it have a very nice "touch" and ease of use, it has many other features not found on the "average" mouse. Features such as:
Programmable Thumb Button
There is a separate long button on the left side of the mouse which can be programmed for 34 "EZ-Click Shortcuts." Choices include:
*Multimedia and Internet Browser - You can use the mouse to click to the Internet or control the CD player.
*360-Degree Auto Scroll - This one takes a bit of getting used to! The first time I tried it, the page was going "everywhere." :-) But with this feature, you can scroll in any direction virtually hands free. Click the button, move the mouse and set the speed. The document or site moves automatically. This is fantastic for reading down an epinions review or online novels, etc. (Once you learn to control it so it doesn't fly through things too fast... at first it had a tendency to "get away from me.") :-)
*Zoom Lens - An adjustable magnifying lens to see an object or text in greater detail; magnifies only that section, without changing the entire screen size.
800 DPI
According to the manufacturer (and my experience seems to back this up) only half the movement of a regular mouse is needed. This not only provides easier, faster clicking, but prevents the problem of the mouse running off the mouse pad and having to constantly reposition it. This mouse takes very little movement; only uses approximately one-fourth of your mousepad! At first this was a bit hard to get used to, as I was moving it too far; but after a very short time it became a very nice feature.
Wheel Scrolling, CD Volume Control and Zooming
*By moving the wheel back and forth you can easily move up and down on the document or website. The wheel moves very easily, yet also does have the very slight "hesitancy" which I've found to prevent inadvertently scrolling too far.
*Can control the volume of the CD Player
*By holding down the Control key and scrolling with the wheel, it "zooms" the page into a larger or smaller size (total of five different sizes). I've found this feature to be fantastic for reading epinions reviews, particularly those written on those new "bright color" backgrounds which bring tears to my eyes to read. It enlarges only the text of the review, leaving your screen size and the profile information, etc., the normal size. Wow!!!!
Designed for Windows 95/98/NT
I'm using it with Windows 98 and it works great!
Unique Design
This mouse is built a bit different in that there is a "sloping" indentation down the right side of it which provides a nice hand rest. Again, takes a bit of getting used to, but I think this will be helpful in preventing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. It is a very comfortable feel once you adjust to it.
Lifetime Warranty
A warranty written on the box guarantees that Memtex will replace this free of charge if it is found to be defective during normal use, for the life of the product.
The only "negative thing" I could say about this mouse is that it does not come with any programming instructions. I had to experiment and figure most of it out on my own. Directions would be extremely helpful, as I still am not sure as to how to do some of the programming for the side button.
I consider the purchase of this mouse to be about the best eight bucks I've ever spent! It is hard to believe how many features this thing has on it! If you are looking for a good serial mouse without sinking a lot of money into it... I highly recommend this one!
