This mouse is an outstanding product, hands down. However, it's targeted market isn't computer users in general, it's for low down, hardcore gamers. Funny thing is, is that it's not just targeted at hardcore gamers in general either, it's targeted at hardcore FPS (First Person Shooter) gamers. First person shooters are self descriptive, your monitor shows what your character (or you) see.
If your a basic computer user, do I recommend it? Sure. Will it be an advantage over the 2-button compaq mouse you already have? Probably not, since it's a $100 mouse it might not be the best idea. Now, if your a hardcore FPS gamer, do I recommend it? YES. I think it's the best gaming mouse ever made, however the mouse market for gamers is a real grey area, it's mostly personal preference the majority of the time. But I do think it is the best mouse once you get adjusted to it, which I'm about to talk about.
In most cases that I've heard about, this mouse won't come running to you, as in it won't feel like that great logitech mouse that fits your hand. Personally, I heard so many good things about this mouse before using it, that I had already thought the world of it. The first time I used one I said, "This is just horrible! How can people stand this mouse?" Soon after I decided to give it another chance, so I forced myself to use it for about 4 hours, it grew on me so much that I actually liked playing, even if I was having my ass handed to me! I never picked up my logitech again, except to move it off my mouse pad at home and give room for my new Razer Boomslang 2000.
Elements of the Mouse
Design-
This is the most unique design I've ever seen on a mouse, it's pretty big, and well... It's kind of hard to describe it in writing, see for yourself in pictures of it on the Razer website (http://www.razerzone.com).
Buttons-
Equipped with 5 buttons (including the wheel button) and a wheel, designed for many heavy hours of fragging. The two main buttons don't have enough click resistance, so regular microsoft or logitech button clickers may have problems with this at first, but it will pass.
DPI-
This mouse was designed with DPI (dots per inch) in mind. It comes with 2000 DPI guaranteeing the smoothest movement you have ever seen in a mouse, it may not be noticeable at first, but you'll notice none the less.
Other Notes-
One caution for this mouse is that, due to the size of the manufacturer, it does not have the best quality, it is easily broken, and will wear real easily. Because of this, Razer is always quick replacing your Boomslang with swift and high quality service.
