As a seller on ebay, I'd like to say that I will NEVER have a garage sale again! Ebay is such a great way to sell almost anything, and the prices people will pay is phenomenal!!
For those of you who don't know ebay, it's an online auction site. There are many categories, and you name it, you can pretty much find it on here somewhere! I have both purchased and sold on here, and with over 500 transactions, I have had 2 transactions that went awry, with people not buying what they bid on.
Ebay charges a small listing fee (usually .25-2.00 for higher value items), and then you pay a final fee. Both of these are nominal.
I'm no pro, but I'd like to give a couple of tips on how to make good money on ebay. First of all, place only items in good to excellent condition on here. I don't list anything that I wouldn't be willing to pay $$ for myself. If there is a minor flaw, be sure to mention it in your description. This is especially important when listing clothing. On that note, kids' and name brand clothing sells great. I've even gotten so much as $12 for a pair of kids Levi's Jeans! We have also sold larger ticket items, such as a bunkbed set! Try to list clothing in the right season.
Secondly, I try to put a few items from key categories on at the same time. For example, almost anything Disney is a big hit, I use that as a draw. Then I'll put a few items from Limited or Old Navy, then a few CD's. Sort of gets a draw from a cross-section of people with different interests. This only works, of course, if people will check out ALL your auctions, so I always mention to check out my other auctions in the body of my listing.
Third, I try to place my beginning bids reasonably. Rarely do I use a reserve, because that sort of scares people away.
Fourth, if at all possible, get a picture on there! It's true that a picture speaks volumes about the item. I also try to get a counter on there, so I can see if people are looking. (www.honesty.com is a great place for free counters and image hosting!) I've paid for my digital camera a couple times over since I've begun putting photos on!
Finally, as for service after the sale, make sure to send the package back as quickly as possible. I try to send the item back within 3 days.
I hope these ideas aren't so simple they're offensive, I just wanted to share what I've learned. Thanks for stopping by!
