BEWARE OF TECH SUPPORT

I love my Gateway computer, but if I were purchasing a computer for the first time I would not get it from Gateway. If this is your first computer purchase, find another company or take some classes in computers before buying from Gateway.
I purchased the Gateway Essential 400 PC. When I got it my monitor did not work. I called the tech support and it took about three hours to finally get someone on the phone. They had to send me a new monitor, and they sent me one that is better than the first. Which was wonderful.
I was having trouble with script errors when I was on the internet. I called and spoke to 5 different tech support people before I got one that knew what to do. That took an entire day.
Then I began to have trouble with my cd rom drive. I called again. Without a thought I was sent a new cd rom drive and told I could install it myself and that all I needed to do was call Gateway when it arrived and tech support would walk me through the installation. I called, I could not get anyone on the phone. I gave up, did it myself and it still was not working. I knew I would never get tech support so I called Sales and through sales got sent directly to a tech support person. I was on the phone with that tech person for three hours and my cd rom drive was still not working. Finally I called again and requested a new computer package, I got a manager then and was on the phone with a tech person until 2 am because the problem was not with my cd rom drive at all, the problem was with my entire system. We needed to completely clear my harddrive and start again because of what the tech support person I had talked to about my script errors had done. I have never been so frustrated. When I finally got a good support person I had no trouble, and he apologized for the bad techs and said there are a lot of them at Gateway....please be aware of them if you have a Gateway.
