Let me start with a little story of what happened to me. Recently i was online talking to friends on icq when a friend asks me, Whats your IP address? I said i didn't know and then he said are you user *my isp info* and started giving alot of numbers, and i responded.. I have no idea what you just typed, next thing i knew he gave me my IP Address!! I didnt have my IP showing in Icq, but he got it somehow. Well to find out he did a netstat in Dos, received my isp info, did some sort of hop test and traced it to me where he received my IP. Frankly it scared me to death. After cussing him out i knew i needed some sort of protection online. Well i talked to another friend and she recommended a personal firewall, well i did some net searching and found out what a firewall was, then i was introduced to Zone Alarm.
Basically what i needed Zone Alarm for was the ability to hide all my ports not in use by the computer, this kept people from doing the hop thing using icq to find out my IP address, so i feel allot better now! Zone Alarm was extremely easy to set up, a Child could figure it out, basically install it, then your set! It has allot of nice features like the ability to lock your net so no one can use it while your away and no one can send you anything while your gone. If someone tries to tap into your server address or link into it, it has an alert feature that blocks them and tells you when they was blocked and how many times they tried to link to you. I know it sounds technical but i'm not very smart about these type of programs, but it only took me 10 mins to figure this one out! Only thing i didnt like though was for the few items i didnt understand, the online instruction manual was no help, it was basically written in Greek to me with alot of technical terms, the Program was made for everyone to understand, but the manual was written for a genius.
All and all i love this program, i feel so much safer now that its running and i'd recommend it to everyone, home user, business, college student, doesn't matter who you are, don't take any chances, start protecting yourself today.
