My first DELL laptop

Apr 16 '00

I would just like to say, despite the recent defective memory recall issue, that in my opinion Dell still stands for quality. I operate a small computer retail store in CT. I have delt with Dell optiplexs and dimensions but never laptops. I would have to say that I was impressed with the Dells right out of the box. The high resolution monitor far surpassed that of my top of the line Toshiba laptop. I am impressed at the ease of memory and hd upgrades. The bios is straight to the point and easy to set up. One could tell, just by looking at a Dell laptop that they are built tough. Physically the Dell laptop is superior to even the mighty IBM Thinkpad or the Toshiba *.*.
If you are in the market for a budget laptop, I would suggest you go for a referb. Dell Latitude etc.. rather then a cheap new laptop such as an Emachines Eslate. Trust me, when you are on the road you don't want to have to worry about weather or not your laptop is going to boot up if it gets knocked around a bit.
Check out your local referb. computer retailer and get a referb. Dell, you will save at least $300.00 and you wont regret buying a Dell.
One note, If you are going to purchase a Dell laptop which was manufactured after 1998 make sure the memory has been checked out.
Visit Dell.com before you buy to verify that the memory in your system is not defective.
