I purchased this product because I was getting random disconnects while connected to the internet with a Conexant 56K Soft WIN Modem. The ZOOM modem is a very good choice as it chooses a connection rate that is compatible with the equipment in place at your internet service provider. If my ISP can only let me connect with a reliable 37K connection, that is what the ZOOM modem does, and I don't have to worry about getting kicked off because I am connected at a rate higher than the equipment my ISP has in place can support.. I bought the ZOOM modem for $39.00, after a $20.00 manufacturers rebate. It installed simply, and maintains a reliable connection all of the time. It is a quality product for the money. It will require one open PCI slot in your computer.
