Okay I know that everyone else here has been bashing this product. I will go against the masses and tell you my good experiences with Memorex. I've bought Memorex CDRs for about a year now and have been very pleased with the quality. So I decided to add this drive to my current system. Just for your information, here are the details of that system (NOTE: I didn't have any incompatibilities):
ASUS P5A Socket 7 Motherboard with AMD K6-2 400 MHZ processor with 128MB RAM, Real 3D Video card, Sound Blaster Live sound card, Win98.
This drive is a 48X EIDE drive. Its very quiet and comes with 7200KB maximum data transfer rate. This is the fastest and quietest CD-ROM that I've ever seen. It reads CDs the second they are loaded in the tray. It reads all major formats: CD-R, CD-RW, CD-Audio, CD-ROM, CD-ROM/XA, CD-I, Photo-CD, CD-EXTRA, I-TRAX CD. Installation was a piece of cake and I didn't even need to look at the nicely-documented manual that came with the unit.
I purchased the drive from Staples for $30 (after $20 rebate). I think its a great value for your money. No cons!
