| KCFemme's Full Review: Hewlett Packard PhotoSmart p1000 Ink-jet Printer |
I shopped long and hard to find the right printer. We have a digital camera and I wanted a good quality printer that would print out the pictures I was taking.
After going to Walmart, Best Buy, CompUSA, Circuit City and a few other places, I went online to research what I had found. I decided to go with the HP PhotoSmart P1000 instead of the P1100 since I would save $100 and I really didn't need the speed of the 1100.
It does have a neat feature that I haven't been able to use yet. You can plug your camera directly into the printer and print the pictures directly. However, I like to download my pictures first, and enhance them before printing.
The quality of the printing is amazing. If I'm printing out something like a portrait that I want framed, I will use the photo quality paper, otherwise, I use the normal XEROX paper and don't lose too much of the quality.
On the bad side though, the drivers for the HP1000 do not like Windows 98. DO NOT throw away your manual!! If you have to reinstall the software you will need the manual. I couldn't find mine, and it took me a few days to find the information on line on troubleshooting the problems.
But once it is all set up, the printer is pretty good. It's somewhat fast on pictures, really fast on documents. And the quality is top-notch. I would recommend this printer for those that print out graphics a lot, but for the every day user that doesn't need, I wouldn't recommend spending the extra money.

UPDATE: HP has finally put a really good driver setup out on their website. I just had to download the drivers and run the setup and the program ran itself, found my printer, and even offered to make the printer available to the computers on my network. If you need these drivers please go to the following website: (include the http://www.)
