Try to avoid Memorex products,
I bought 36x Memorex CD_ROM drive and replaced my good old Mitsumi. On the second day after the installation it stopped working. Memorex customer service people were qualified and friendly. I brought it back to the store and replaced it by 32x. After the end of warranty period the drive stopped working with the same symptoms, which the 36x.
I had to replace it by my good old Mitsume drive, which I kept as a spare part.

Avoid Memorex products, go for Mitsumi.
