This is my second Compaq desktop. The first one was defective and I was able to exchange it at the store within 30 days. Now, I have a 7470. The model number doesn't matter because Compaq's support system on all their computers is awful. If you buy an expensive one you can probably call the 800 number for help for about 2 weeks or so. Then your computer is considered old and you are shoved down to the crummy service, where you must call a toll number for help. If you buy a lower end computer you start out with the toll number. It seems to me if you are spending $1000 to $2000 for a computer you should be able to get a working toll-free number for help. You can buy a lot of cheap or frivolous items and be given a toll-free number for help. I believe most computer manufacturers give toll-free numbers, so I think this is pretty cheesy of Compaq not to.
