Pros:optional usb/ parrallel port connection, easy to use.
Cons:bug - ridden software, blurry pictures and videos,
I bought this webcamera after I misplaced my logitech home camera, and after reading a review on it by a webcam girl ( www.gabgab.cam ).
The camera comes with an optional parallel or usb cord, and it was pretty easy to set up. The software features a good driver program for the webcam, and a videoconferencing program -windows netmeeting. The camera has a clamp which is supposed to help attach the camera to the top of one's computer. While this favours people with laptops or flat lcd screens, it does not favour people with irregularly shaped monitors. In my own experience, the camera kept falling off the top of the monitor every couple minutes, mostly due to the fact that the cord was pulling back on it. If you're someone who does not move or tilt your monitor from time to time, then the camera might be able to stay in place for a while.
The quickcam software allows you to choose between 2 recording formats, the picture and the video recording modes. I have to say that it takes a little adjusting to get good still pictures, being that when you click on the 'take picture " button, it takes almost 4 seconds before the actual picture is taken. The good thing is that you can adjust the contrast and brightness setting for the camera. The video recording is not the best...especially when you're recording fast movements, the image comes out very blurry.
Another good feature of this camera is the auto - recording mode it has. It means you can program it to wait for a certain time before taking a picture of before recording a video. It also has the ability to save the pictures in an autocapture file (optional), which means you don't always have to save your pictures manually, and you can check it any convenient time. The software also includes a feature which enables you to publish images directly to the internet.
Unfortunately, the logitech software conflicts with my HP printer's software. When I have both of them installed on the computer at the same time, the printer fails to work, and it gives protection module errors, but when I uninstall the logitech software, the printer starts working just fine again. This paritcular printer is the HP Deskjet 932C. Since I have been able to figure out this problem by myself, I havent had the cause to call technical support or anything for troubleshooting.
The videoconferencing software, windows netmeeting, hasn't been a lot of fun to use. Why ? because it contains many bugs, and because the directory servers for people using netmeeting is crowded with desperate, sex starved , young and old people who would keep on calling you and harassing you. I have only been able to have about 4 clean videoconferencing sessions with some families from other parts of the world. Anyways, the videoconferencing is a good feature because if well planned, you can meet someone from a different part of the world at a certain time, provided you know thier ip number or you both plan to meet on a particular server.
If you have decided to get this camera, make sure to keep the reciept, just in case the software conflicts with any devices on your system, or in case you're not thoroughly satisfied with it. An updated version of the software can be downloaded at the logitech website. I think there are better cameras out there, for the same reasonable price.
