| ilmar's Full Review: Dell Inspiron 5000 R600LG |
Viewpoint School received a grant and purchased 75 of these notebooks and supplied them, free of charge to all the faculty. I also received 10 additional units for use in my Physics and Geometry classes. The students use Geometer's Sketchpad to gain insight on several geometric concepts and are able to manipulate figures to see them from all angles. The physics students use them in conjunction with Verniers Lab Pro Interface and probes to carry out experiments and view graphs of motion in real time.
They have all worked without a hitch, even with Xircom LAN/modem cards installed. I can gather all there work off the network and view their results instantaneously. The easy of their use has increased the students curiosity and many have gone far beyond the material introduced to them in the labs. They are excited about class and are eager to begin work.
I especially like the touchpad mouse, which took a little getting used to, but has now facilitated the tasks done with a mouse. They are light and compact unit which has allowed for easy storage in standard cabinets. The battery packs are charged quickly and have a very easy connect/disconnect. The large screen provides crisp graphics. The volume controls are easily accessible on the side of the notebook. Several ports are available to connect external peripherals as well.
I highly recommend this product for students! Transport is no problem with the sturdy black leather case which also has plenty of storage space.
