| TommyD's Full Review: Handspring Visor Deluxe Handheld |
The way I see it, if you want a PDA you have two choices. You either go with the Palm v (Palm VII is too expensive and too clunky) or you go with Handspring's Visor.
I bought my Visor off of eBay and paid way too much for it, but I still love it. My coworkers and I all work in the interactive industry and needless to say, owning a PDA is as essential as having funky new media glasses and CD rom business cards.
FASHION
1)The Visor is the "OOOhhh and Ahhhhh" of PDAs. Built on the same design principles of the iMAC, (make it pretty) the Visor basically says (Yes, I'm very wired and very with it.) So if you want this image, go for a Visor.
2) The Palm V is the standard. Everyone in my industry has one of these and it's a sleek, sophisticated machine. It won't make anyone "OOOhhh and Ahhhh" like the visor, but it does portray an image of understated elegance. Where the visor is comparable to the design and fashion sense of an iMac and the new VW Bug, the PalmV is more like a sleek, silver Lexus. However, this only applies to looks because when you really compare what's under the hood, the Visor blows the PalmV away.

Bottom line: The Visor with its infinitely expandable port is today's technology. Soon you'll be able to use the Visor for:
-Pager
- Modem
- MP3 Music Player
- Universal Remote
- GPS Receiver
- Memory Card
- Game Pack
-and more
The Palm V is yesterday's technology, but it's still a nice piece of hardware. They're also figuring how to make it expandable. Omnisky, for example has created a wireless modem for it. Checkout www.omnisky.com.
But the price, features, and future all point to the VISOR. If you don't mind hearing "ooohhhs and ahhhsss" when you pull it out of your bag, it's the PDA for you.
If you can't afford one, checkout www.directwish.com to send a wish for one into deep space. You never know who might be listening.
