I got the Logitech Wheel Mouse for Christmas thanks to a few well laid hints. I had been interested in getting this mouse for a few months, but there's nothing better than getting it as a gift. I've used many a Logitech mouse in the past, so it would not be a surprise that I would like this one.
Of course, the reason I wanted this mouse was that it didn't use a ball. I smoke around my computer, so every couple of months, it needs to be cleaned. This is not a problem on a mouse that does not use the traditional ball. Instead, as you know, this mouse uses an optical sensor to track movement. Right there you have two benefits. First, with no ball and no rollers inside the mouse, there is nothing you'll need to clean to keep the tracking accurate. Second, with no moving parts, there is little chance for a mechanical failure. Now, I say no moving parts loosely of course, because there is still the wheel, which is another feature that makes this mouse appealing. When surfing the web or any other document that takes up more space than the screen will allow, you don't have to move the pointer to the scroll buttons or switch back to the keyboard to use the arrow keys. Unless of course you decide to set the wheel to act as a third button with a different instruction. You can set the wheel to a number of presets including double-click.
Another great feature of this mouse is that it offers everything that the Microsoft Intellimouse Eye offers except the price tag. The last I saw the Logitech sold for around $25 whereas the Microsoft mouse sold for around $40 and didn't really offer anything more than the Logitech.
Last but not least, I like the color of the Logitech WheelMouse. It matches my PC pretty well since I am stuck with a Sony right now.
