REVISED-Fellowes gel rest-No more carpal tunnel syndrome

Written: May 25 '00 (Updated Nov 17 '00)
Pros:Feels great, very comfortable, adjustable to keyboard shape
Cons:None

After suffering from wrist strain or carpal tunnel syndrome (or something like it) and undergoing physio for a few months during and after my pregnancy, I decided to get something that will hopefully decrease the chances of it recurring. I bought the Fellowes Gel Wrist rest along with the Wrist rest and mouse pad due to the feel of the pads. The packaging allowed the consumer to feel the texture of the gel pads for both the keyboard wrist rest and for the mouse pad. As I had previously used it at work, I knew that I wanted it for home use.

The wrist rest has a very smooth velvet-like Lycra material outer cover with gel inside which feels cool, soft, and spongy. The feel of resting the wrist on it provided enough of a firm support for the wrist but also was soft enough to mold and sculpt to the pressure and shape of your wrist. According to Fellowes, the rest is ergonomically designed to redistribute pressure points for forearm and wrist comfort. I don't know whether it does that but I really liked the feel of the wrist on the gel pad and I believe that it helps with my typing experience. I now refuse to use any computer without it.

The wrist rest has a bottom non-skid surface which helps grip to the desk or surface it's resting on. It also can be adjusted to the contour of the keyboard, which is great for those with ergonomically shaped keyboards.

Compared to other gel like wrist rests I found, I like this one more because the gel is soft enough to provide comfort but not too much that it becomes depressed, but yet firm enough to provide enough of a support for the wrist.

Although the price of the rest may be a bit higher than other wrist rests, I believe that one should not place too much emphasis on the price for the cost of wrist strain.

The rest only comes in a grey color.

Overall, I believe that all computer users should buy this to prevent wrist strain. But, be careful, you will not want to work on a computer without it!
