This Gateway Essential 466 was delivered on June 3, 1999. Only an hour or two out of the box, I was on the phone with service. They said I needed a new power supply. Next, I needed new memory and a new motherboard. Mind you, this was all in less than a months time. I still continue to have problems with it, and it will be going to the Gateway store, once again, to be looked at. Gateway blames my internet service provider, my internet service provider blames Microsoft, and Microsoft blames Gateway. It's been a viscous circle. In the past month, I have spent more time on the phone between Gateway, Microsoft, and my internet service provider, than I have spent using my computer. And, as for their service people, they leave a lot to be desired. After almost 2 full weeks on the phone with all these people, I talked to someone in customer service that told me that I should have received a coupon in the mail to redeem for the Windows 98 updated version. I told him that I received nothing. I called back the next day, and they put me through to a different department. I was told that I needed to contact them within 30 days of receipt of my computer to be eligible for this offer. I told them that I was never made aware of this, and was told that they don't offer this information...you need to dig to get the information. I told them that this was really shady of them. I told them that what they sold me was a $2000.00 overpriced paperweight and that word of mouth is everything. I warned them that I would tell anyone I could about my experiences with them.
