Future of free ISPs

Written: Dec 23 '99
Pros:free service
Cons:bad service

I agree with Dochary... free ISPs will be the way to go in the future. But right now the concept is as good as dead because the powers that be are not trying. They are not moving in that direction.
Only the smaller, poorer ISPs are trying to get a head start at this concept and barely capturing much fanfare.
Their service is often slow and unreliable, so people will simply not bother.
If AOL and other titans step into the free ISP arena, then you're talking business. There is very little doubt in my mind that the heavy weights of ISPeing will have to make this move before consumers truly discover the already existing free ISPs and snap up their services.
On the other hand, cable internet access is becoming very popular. This could undercut Netzero and Freei.net's efforts to grow as people move away from phone lines.
