Tech's Favorite

I've been running a computer tech business for 3 or 4 years now and have worked on every PC system out there. I've also dealt with nearly every PC Manufacturer's support system. I can safely say that Micron wins out over every other PC company in every category. The nicest sales staff, shortest hold times, best tech support. They also have lowest DOA statistics (meaning systems shipped arriving with one or more components dead on arrival) whereas Dell has the highest.
Recent Micron policy changes cast a shadow on an otherwise stellar company - these include: reducing price protection policy to 15 days (from 30); stricter system configurations (they rely too heavily on Micron Additions - it's great cuz it offers nearly everything you could want, but lame cuz it's so inconvenient to have to place seperate orders with two different people); shorter burn-in times (used to burn-in (hardware stress test) for 24-72 hrs, but I've recently found out they only burn-in for around 8 hrs - while sufficient, it's not wise to rely on component manufacturer's testing... HP for example at one time knew they were releasing products to the public which had 20% failure rate - yet continued production); finally, their move towards business industry has allowed competitors to beat them to market with the newest-latest... this was always a factor -
Intel will release a new chip and it will show up in a Dell or a Gateway a week or so before Micron introduces it - this is because Micron puts new technology through rigorous compatability testing before releasing it... this is a good thing - I don't mind waiting.
But these days, Micron is a little slower at keeping up. Micron's target audience fluxuates constantly and their stock is a nightmare to own, but they make the best component machine bar none and provide the best support. Dell may be the first kid on the block with the new hardware in their system, but if you buy it - beware of configuration anxiety and component incompatabilities... not a problem with Micron. I'm not happy either that Micron refuses to produce Athlon based machines.
In any case... Micron is my first choice in recommending to my customers. You won't find a better bang for your buck for systems $1500 and up.
