| PhoenixFlight's Full Review: Hewlett Packard PhotoSmart 1218 Inkjet Printer |
Are you into digital photography and looking for a versatile printer for your photos? The HP Photosmart 1218 could be the printer of your dreams. Whether you are a professional or amateur photographer, the HP Photosmart 1218 has the capability to reproduce photo quality images using Hewlett Packard’s own Color Layering Technology that are equal to what you would bet from any print manufacturer.
The HP Photosmart 1218 offers users the capability of direct printing from digital cameras. In a nutshell this means that you will never have to do the camera to computer to printer routine again. Although I am stressing the photographic benefits of the HP Photosmart 1218 it should be noted that the 1218 isn’t just for digital cameras. The HP Photosmart 1218 will also do direct downloads from compatible laptops, palm type units as well as a few other mobile devices as well.
The HP Photosmart 1218 produces some of the most vivid colors I have ever seen from a printer and it features automatic two sided printing that some of the competitors don’t. The 1218 also features two paper trays allowing you to keep regular paper as well as 4x6-inch photo stock in the unit at the same time. This is a time saver to say the least alleviating the need to load and unload different papers for each use.
Hewlett Packard has added an optical sensor to the HP Photosmart 1218 that can detect the subtle differences in types of paper and automatically adjust the print settings to give the best possible results from each print. Speed isn’t a problem with the 1218 either. The HP Photosmart 1218 prints black and white copy at a rate of 17 pages per minute easily blowing away the competition by an average of 3-4 pages. The speed for color printing is slightly less at 13 pages.
The HP Photosmart 1218 is a high quality, 2400x1200 dpi high-resolution, network ready printer that I would highly recommend for digital photographers, business’s that produce newsletters or companies that need a printer capable of producing presentation quality materials with either a Mac or PC. I would not recommend it for anyone that is just looking for standard black and white printing because of the price tag, just under $500.
